Type 1 (also known as SAE J1772) was the original connection standard for EV's and is most commonly found on the first generation (pre-2018) Nissan Leaf. Type 1 remains the standard for North America, however in Europe and Japan there has been a move to Type 2 (such as the European/Japanese 2018+ Nissan Leaf).
